PM Modi in Thailand: BIMSTEC Summit Focuses on Regional Connectivity and Trade

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has landed in Thailand to participate in the 6th BIMSTEC summit, where the spotlight will be on strengthening regional connectivity and boosting trade within the Bay of Bengal region. The summit, which gathers leaders from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Bhutan, and Nepal, will address a variety of issues, including trade, infrastructure development, and energy security.

The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) serves as a critical platform for fostering deeper economic integration among member countries. With its growing influence in global trade, the region is poised to become a key player in the world economy. PM Modi’s presence at the summit underscores India’s commitment to driving the region’s development through increased collaboration and cooperation.

India is expected to push for initiatives that enhance connectivity across the Bay of Bengal region, including the expansion of existing transport infrastructure and the creation of new digital corridors. PM Modi will highlight projects such as the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway and other cross-border infrastructure developments aimed at improving trade and economic flow.

In his address, PM Modi will also likely advocate for a free and open Indo-Pacific, with discussions on regional maritime security expected to take center stage. India’s leadership in maintaining peace and security in the region will be reinforced through discussions on counter-terrorism measures and collaborative defense initiatives.

By advancing these projects, PM Modi aims to position India as a central force in driving the economic and geopolitical future of the Bay of Bengal region.
