Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced that objectionable web series will be banned in the state. He said that a committee will be formed to keep an eye on the content of the web series, and strict action will be taken against those who produce and broadcast such content.
CM Chouhan made this announcement on April 8, 2023, while addressing a gathering in Indore. He expressed concern over the increasing amount of vulgarity and violence being depicted in web series and said that it is having a negative impact on the society, especially the younger generation.
He also urged the youth of the state to refrain from watching such content and to instead focus on constructive activities like education and sports. He further added that the government will take steps to promote cultural activities and events that will help in preserving the traditional values and ethos of the state.
This move comes after several states in India have taken similar measures to ban or regulate the content of web series and OTT platforms. In recent times, there have been controversies over the depiction of religious figures, explicit scenes, and use of abusive language in web series. Many have raised concerns that such content is corrupting the youth and harming the social fabric of the country.
The decision of Madhya Pradesh government to ban objectionable web series is expected to receive support from various quarters. However, there are concerns over how the ban will be implemented and whether it will lead to censorship and curb artistic freedom.
